Leeds United boost as key man available for Sheffield United clash

Leeds fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup round of 16.

Manager Thomas Christiansen made 10 changes to the lineup that handed a 3-nil loss to Bristol City at the weekend, and the Premier League club proved too much for the Whites.

After the game, the Spaniard reiterated that promotion remains top goal, and a fourth round exit in the League Cup will only help that more achievable.

Leeds host 3rd placed Sheffield United on Friday, and victory will see them close the gap on the visitors to a point.

The Leicester clash produced no bookings for both teams, and it would have come as a boost for Christiansen.

Midfielder Kalvin Phillips is just a yellow card away from an automatic one-match suspension having picked up his 4th at the weekend, and being without him against the Blades would have been a big blow.

With 4 goals and an assist this term, the English defensive midfielder has proven to be a key box-to-box player, and he remains integral to the manager’s plans.

Having played again with the big boys on Tuesday night, Phillips’ hunger for Premier League is bound to even increase the more, and there can no better inspiration for him ahead of weekend’s clash than the King Power Stadium experience.
