Garry Monk explains why he really decided to leave Leeds United

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has spoken out about why he opted to leave Leeds United at the end of last season.

In his only season in charge of the Whites last term, Monk helped the club launch a promotion push though they eventually ended up finishing in seventh position and outside the playoff positions.

However rather than remaining at the club and building on the progress which he made, he opted to leave just two days after Andrea Radrizzani completed a takeover of the club in May.

Monk has since spoken out about why he left Leeds and has indicated that he wished to remain at the club and attempt to have another crack at promotion.

He said: “There has been a lot of negativity [toward me] and I was disappointed to leave Leeds. I felt we had a fantastic season when you consider what it was when I took over and what it was when we left. There was an expectancy we’d still be there.”
