Seaman urges Southgate to have faith in Joe Hart for this reason

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has urged England national team manager Gareth Southgate to retain West Ham keeper Joe Hart as Three Lions first choice shot-stopper for the World Cup next year.

Over recent times, many questions have been raised over whether Hart should be the first choice for the country as his performances appear to have declined and the bad form of the Hammers this season will also not help his cause.

The 30 year old Hart conceded three goals on Friday as West Ham slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.  Southgate has so far opted to retain Hart as first choice though the likes of Jack Butland, Fraser Forster and Jordan Pickford are more than capable alternatives.

Seaman said: “I would stay with Joe. For me Joe is still England’s number one. The level he’s played at for a long time is really good. Now the other guys are getting closer. That will push him.

“I had the same situation when I was with England I knew the other goalkeepers were getting closer, it just made me try and train a little bit harder and try to play better.”
