Both teams are finding success in the Liga MX and are notorious rivals, which should make for one of the best games in the Copa MX this week.
Club America is living the better moment out of the two Mexico City teams, currently second in the Liga MX with 26 points. Las Aguilas topped Group 3 of this Copa MX competition with nine points to get into this round of 16 match and it is likely that manager Miguel Herrera will use several key players.
Los Azulcremas defeated Cruz Azul 3-1 the first time the two teams met this season in the Liga MX but is still unclear how this game will go. The game will be played at the Estadio Azteca, which could favor Club America even if there will be a plethora of Cruz Azul fans around the stadium.
Cruz Azul has been a solid team this season but has been falling out of place recently in the Liga MX now in eighth with 21 points. Los Cementeros fell to eighth after losing two of their last three games in the Liga MX and will be eager to get points out of their last three games in league play. In the Copa MX, La Maquina finished first in Group 5 of the tournament with eight points, finishing ahead of Zacatepec and Tigres UANL. This match should be very entertaining like the first time the two teams met and may prove to be even more intense with the high stakes in place.
