Tottenham initiate contacts over the potential signing of 24-year-old European Champion

Tottenham Hotspur have made contacts with Barcelona’s Andre Gomes’ agent, Jorge Mendes, over the availability of the midfielder, according to Mundo Deportivo (via HITC).

Tottenham have been linked with Gomes for some time now and the North London side made an offer for the Portuguese international during the summer transfer window but eventually failed to land the talented midfielder.

Reports later suggested that the main reason for Barcelona turning down the approach had been due to their inability to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool but it looks like Tottenham have not been convinced by the Catalan giant’s explanations.

As a result, Spurs are said to be preparing a new bid to sign Gomes during the January transfer window and the English club have already started making enquiries with the player’s agent over the availability of the player.

Despite Gomes struggle at Barcelona, a bid of at least £40million might be necessary for Tottenham to land the Portuguese international and Spurs are said to be ready to splash the cash to land their top target.
