Liverpool and Real Madrid target Timo Werner has confessed that he was a fan of Manchester United while growing up.
Werner made a name for himself last season as he helped the relatively unknown RB Leipzig claim a second place finish in the Bundesliga and qualify for the Champions League.
After being given an opportunity for the German national team during the Confederations Cup in June, he also impressed as scored three goals as his country went on to win the World Cup dress rehearsal. He will now be pushing to be part of the Germany squad that travels to the 2018 World Cup.
Speaking to Sky Deutschland, Werner said: “As a young boy, you always dream of the big club you’d like to play for.
“It used to be Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, who always won. A young boy is always a fan of those who win. You can’t just drop something like that. When it’s going well, you dream of playing somewhere else.”
