Celtic booked a place in the finals of the Scottish League Cup following a 4-2 victory over Hibernian on Saturday, making it 60 consecutive domestic games without a defeat in the process.
Dominance on the local front has continued for the Hoops, but that hasn’t stopped manager Brendan Rodgers from aiming to further bolster his squad.
Celtic center-back Jozo Simunovic is currently ruled out of action for the next 3 weeks following an injury, and the Northern Irishman is worried over his lack of depth at the back.
He revealed ahead of Saturday’s semifinals: “It’s definitely an area I need to look at now, centre-half is a position where you need stability.
“It’s been unfortunate for us we haven’t had that. It hasn’t just been one player who’s been affected, it’s been two and sometimes three at a time who have been out.
“It’s unfortunate, but we have to make do, and we’ll see what January brings.”
The duo of Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata hasn’t been completely fit, and Rodgers has claimed he would bring in another centre-back once the transfer window reopens.
A failed medical saw Celtic abort a move for Cape Town Ajax ace Rivaldo Coetzee during the summer, and recent injury woes in the department has forced the managers’ hands.
It remains unknown if the club will return for the South African defender as his condition has been rectified, but from all indications, a new centre-back will arrive Parkhead in January.
