West Ham suffered a shocking 3-nil home defeat at the hands of Premier League first timers Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday night, and the Hammers’ 5th loss of the campaign could see them slip into the drop zone at the end of matchday 9.
The visitors were 2 goals up heading into the break, adding another one from the spot 15 minutes from time to grab their first away victory of the campaign.
West Ham dominance: 65% ball possession, 16 shots (2 on target) and 10 corners yielded nothing in the end, and the pressure continues to mount on manager Slaven Bilic.
West Ham have been poor at both ends of the pitch to say the least, shipping 17 goals and scoring just 8 this Premier League term.
While no player particularly stood out for the good reasons during Friday night’s battering, one did for all the bad reasons.
Club record signing Marko Arnautovic wasn’t able to get anything right for the 74 minutes he spent on the pitch, and was subjected to jeers from the home fans upon his withdrawal.
The £20 million man has now gone 341 minutes in the West Ham shirt without a goal or assist.
Irons fans took to Twitter to express their displeasure at Arnautovic, and here are some of the reactions.
Neville on Arnautovic: “He thinks he’s Ronaldo. He thinks he’s better than he is.”

If Marko Arnautovic’s ‘ambition’ is getting tonked 3-0 at home to Brighton, he’s definitely come to the right place https://t.co/K8X0vpUBiI

Marko Arnautovic is a shambles of a footballer.

If Marko Arnautovic was even 10% the player he seems to think he is, he’d be good enough to play for a better side than West Ham. #FNF

Please, can somebody tell me what Marko Arnautović has brought to this game?

The main conclusion from that half: Stoke City getting over £20 million for Marko Arnautovic was some sort of miracle.
