Celtic boss Rodgers says he will persist with attacking tactics despite humbling loss

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that his club will not resort to defensive tactics despite having lost two out of three Champions League group stage games thus far.

The Hoops fell to a 3-0 defeat against German giants Bayern Munich on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena after being comprehensively outplayed.

Thomas Mueller opened the scoring before Joshua Kimmich added the second goal for the German outfit just before the half hour mark. Mats Hummels scored the third for Munich just after half time to complete the rout.

The loss means that Celtic have now lost two out of their three Champions League encounters thus far. They lost their opening fixture 5-0 against PSG before defeating Belgian club Anderlecht 3-0. Despite this Rodgers insisted that his club will not change their approach.

He said, “We decide how we play. There is nothing about being pragmatic for the goals we conceded. We didn’t defend our box well enough when the ball came in. We could do better with those.

“But listen, I would rather lose a game playing the way we want to play and how we want to work as opposed to sat in and defending for 90 minutes and still lose, if that is the case.”
