Scotland missed out on qualifications for next year’s World Cup and are now in the process of squad rebuilding ahead of the future.
They play the Netherlands next month in a friendly, and Scottish football commentator Rob Maclean thinks Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans deserves to be back in the team.
The 30-year-old arrived Ibrox from Norwich on a £1.3million 3-year deal in July, and quickly proved to be a good signing by bagging a brace on his debut – a 2-1 league victory over Motherwell.
Dorrans has since added 3 more goals, including one during Friday’s 3-nil demolition of St. Johnstone.
Maclean was at the game, witnessing firsthand the brilliance of the veteran midfielder.
The commentator told the BBC why he feels Dorrans is making a strong push for an international recall after 2 years away.
“I watched the 30-year-old midfielder turn in an eye-catching performance in his team’s 3-0 defeat of St Johnstone in Perth on Friday night”, said Maclean.
“Not just because he cracked a 25-yarder against the crossbar, then supplied the finishing touch for Rangers’ third goal of the game.
“No, it was Dorrans’ all-round command of the midfield which couldn’t fail to grab your attention.
“He played nearly seven seasons of top-flight football in England for West Brom and still has plenty to offer.
“Dorrans should surely be in the frame for a return to the Scotland squad for next month’s friendly against the Netherlands.”
Rangers are currently 3rd on the Scottish Premiership table, 6 points behind Celtic and Aberdeen, and they will need Dorrans to maintain his form and keep calling the shots in the middle of the park if they are to have a chance of finishing in 2nd place.
