Liverpool legend John Barnes has blasted Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho for the defensive approach which he utilized during his team’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.
Earlier in the season, United dropped points during a 2-2 draw with Stoke City and during the aftermath of the game, Mourinho claimed that the Potters had played for a draw.
Barnes has accused Mourinho of hypocrisy as he feels that the Red Devils also played for a draw against Jurgen Klopp’s team.
This is definitely a realistic possibility considering that United had to make do without key players in Paul Pogba and Maroune Fellaini for the game.
Barnes told IBTimes UK: “We heard Mourinho when teams play that way [defensively] against Manchester United, he comes out after the game and says, ‘We wanted to win the game and a lot of teams came for a draw.’
“He did the exact same thing. Mourinho criticises managers who come and play for a draw [against United], and that’s exactly what he did at Anfield.
“Liverpool were the better side by far. Liverpool were the team who wanted to win the game, while Mourinho came for a draw. Apart from Lukaku’s chance, they never had an attempt on goal.”
