Legendary manager reveals why Celtic-Rangers won’t be playing in England anytime soon

Celtic vs Hearts

Legendary Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has weighed in on the age-long debate on where Rangers and Celtic would fit in should they ever be allowed to join the English Premier League.

Dalglish, an EPL-winning manager with Blackburn, believes the Scottish giants will improve the topflight due to the competition they can provide other teams.

However, the former Celtic manager doesn’t see either of the duo playing their football in the English league anytime soon, as they wouldn’t be able to get the number of votes needed to secure playing in England.

Considering they would both stand in the way of other English teams when it comes to promotion and relegation, Dalglish reckons that remains an issue, though he maintains the 2 sides would enhance the quality of the Premier League.

He told the Mirror: “I don’t see how any of the clubs in England would vote for them to come in. You wouldn’t vote them in because it’s two teams that are going to cause you problems.

“When you’re worried about avoiding relegation in that particular league or whether you’re worried about promotion, those two teams would add strength to that argument so if you’re in opposition to them you wouldn’t want them.

“But then like I said at the beginning, they would definitely enhance the Premier League but I don’t know if we’ll get there.”

Rangers and Celtic have averaged a crowd of around 50,000 and 58,000 respectively per game this season, a number only the top 6 teams in the EPL can rival.

The Scottish Premiership, however, remains less competitive compared to the top 4 tiers in England, with Celtic holding sway over the likes of Aberdeen and Rangers.
