This Tuesday, October 17, 2017 (6:45 PM Pacific) Tigres UANL will host Veracruz at the Estadio Universitario for a game in the 10th round of matches in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams are in contention for a playoff spot and should provide a very intense matchup in Nuevo Leon.
Tigres UANL has been one of the better teams in the Liga MX Apertura 2017, currently fifth with 19 points and a game in hand. Los Felinos are coming off a rough 1-0 loss against Leon away from home but enjoyed two consecutive victories before that loss. Ricardo Ferretti’s team is tied for the second-best offense in the Liga MX with 20 goals from 12 games and should not have many problems getting the three points from this game especially in front of a home crowd.
Veracruz has been slowly picking up points and is still a serious contender to possibly make the playoffs. Los Escualos are coming off a hard-fought scoreless draw against Club Tijuana away from home, where Veracruz held on to the draw even with 10 men on the pitch. Midfielder Diego Chavez received a red card in that match and will not be available for this game after putting in a strong performance in Tijuana.
Jose Cardozo is likely to try a similar tactic as he did in Tijuana and stay back to look for a possible counter-attack. That worked against a very potent Xolos’ offense but it is unclear if it will work against an even more potent Tigres’ attack. Players like Cristian Pellerano, Kristian Alvarez and Guido Milan will be key in this game, recovering the ball to maintain a favorable result for Veracruz.
