West Ham defender Jose Fonte has said that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was adored by Southampton players whilst he was in charge of the Saints. The Argentine was a surprise appointment as Saints manager when he replaced Nigel Adkins in 2013.
Fonte also added that Luke Shaw was like a son to Pochettino. Shaw was one of the impressive youngsters under Pochettino and eventually earned himself a £30 million transfer to Manchester United in 2014.
Fonte told MOTD2 Extra, as quoted by the BBC Sport website, “He would put an arm around you and make you feel special. It’s good.
“I remember Luke Shaw was like a son to him. Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and myself all had a great relationship with him. He was tough as well when he had to be.”
Pochettino is still a fairly young manager and since taking over Spurs, he has managed to transform the North London side from a modest outfit to genuine Premier League title contenders.
