Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that he expected Liverpool to play more attacking football during his side’s 0-0 stalemate against the Reds on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool looked the side that were more likely to snatch a victory on the day as they had more chances at goal.

Apart from a Romelu Lukaku chance, United never really looked like they were playing to win the game and their tactics were largely defensive during the game.

Mourinho has since admitted that he would have ideally introduced a midfielder during the second help to bolster his sides attack during the second half but his lack of options prevented him from doing so.

He said after the game: “We came for three points but in the second half we felt it difficult to do that with the match and the dynamic it had.

“I was waiting for Jurgen to change to go more attacking but he kept the three strong midfield players all the time and he had control. I had only Herrera and Matic.”
