Everton go into matchday 8 with just 4 goals to their name thus far.
As a result of their lack of sharpness in front of goal, manager Ronald Koeman is, unsurprisingly, planning on landing a striker in January.
The under-pressure Dutchman is looking within the club for his solution, as reports have emerged that the Merseysiders will try and bring summer signing Henry Onyekuru back to Goodison Park come winter.
Everton landed the Nigeria international for £7million from KAS Eupen in the summer but immediately loaned him out to Anderlecht as he didn’t qualify for a UK work permit.
However, the Blues will try and use the “exceptional talent” argument to convince the authorities into granting Onyekuru a work permit.
Despite a slow start to the season, the 20-year-old has finally found his feet in the Jupiler League, scoring 6 goals in 9 appearances thus far.
Onyekuru confirmed Everton’s interests in having him return to Merseyside in January, telling Belgian newspaper La Libre: “Yes, that’s right [had a meeting in Liverpool] and I’m waiting for something. That’s all I can say.
“I hope to be able to play there in January. Everton is happy with my start to the season. But we are not in January and all my concentration is in Anderlecht.”
Should they successfully get their man, he could prove to be the game changer and hero Everton really need to save their campaign.
