Roy Evans explains when Liverpool should have won the Premier League

Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans has revealed that he feels that the Reds should have won the Premier League title during his tenure as manager of the club.

Evans was manager of the Reds between 1994 and 1998 and during that time, the club won the League Cup in 1995 before finishing as runners-up to Manchester United in the FA Cup a year later.

While his time at the club was not laden with silverware, Evans earned praise for making the club play n attractive brand of football during his time. During his time with the Reds as manager, Evans left a strong impression.

However he does believe that the club should have won the League saying, “At this moment in time I think I still have the best record of any English manager in the Premier League, which is ridiculous, because no English manager’s ever won it.

“We [Liverpool] were good to watch and they [Man Utd] were very competitive – but always with the same answer, unfortunately, that if you don’t win the Premier League then that’s where the bar is raised to.”

“Manchester United were the dominant side of the time and we were trying to overcome that. But you talk about whether you’d have done anything different and everything’s easy in hindsight – you’d have won a few more games!

“Maybe I take a fair amount of the blame because maybe sometimes we were too attacking minded.”
