Match Preview
The Republic of Ireland’s chances at featuring in the next World Cup seem slim, currently third with 13 points in Group D. The Green Army is just a point behind second-place Wales but is five points behind first-place Serbia. Ireland has failed to win in its last four games but must now win its last two for a real chance at qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Martin O’Neill has a solid squad that mostly plays in England, featuring players like James McClean, James McCarthy, Robbie Brady and Shane Long. Of course, the continued absence of Seamus Coleman is a huge problem for the team but The Boys in Green should easily win this game, especially at home.
Moldova has been the worst team in this Group D of the competition with no wins, two draws and six losses. The Eastern European side is mathematically eliminated from making the next World Cup, has lost its last two games and holds a horrid goal differential of negative 16.
Most of the team plays domestically in a league that is not very competitive and this should be an almost impossible task at the Aviva Stadium for Igor Dobrovolski’s men. Ireland took home a 3-1 win the last time the two teams played each other and this game should not be much different.
