Forget the hype – Scott Sinclair doesn’t really deserve an England call-up

Celtic vs Hearts

Celtic are unarguably the best team in Scotland, but are firmly miles behind a lot of Premier League teams.

While they boast of quality players, it remains to be seen if any of the Bhoys’ starting XI will walk straight into any of the English topflight’s top 6 teams, and it’s why Scott Sinclair won’t be earning an England call up anytime soon.

His goals, assists, finishing and overall play are impressive as they come, but the winger remains a level below the current crop of Three Lions options in the attacking department.

Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and even Jesse Lingard, despite being way younger and less experienced than the former Manchester City forward, are preferred by manager Gareth Southgate for a lot of reasons.

They are proving themselves in the most competitive league on the planet every other matchday.

Sinclair couldn’t hold his own down in the EPL, and nobody should be hoodwinked by his eye-catching performances against SPFL sides.

The 28-year-old is a good player, but he’s just not good enough to represent the England national team.

However, should he prove himself in 180 minutes against Bayern Munich, and in another 90 minutes against PSG in November, he definitely will leave Southgate with no option.

But can he?
