Match Preview
Mali seems to be the weak link of this Group C of the competition, currently bottom of the group with just two points. Les Aigles are undefeated at home with ties against Gabon and Morocco at the Stade du 26 Mars but this should be a much tougher task against a more formidable side.
Most of Mali’s squad is made up of players who play in France, including three players who play under Marcelo Bielsa at Lille. There are some intriguing players on Mohamed Magassouba’s side including team captain Yacouba Sylla but this should prove to be a very complicated game for the home side.
Ivory Coast has proven to be the strongest side in this Group C of the qualifiers, currently topping the group with seven points. The Elephants have wins against Mali and Gabon and a draw against Morocco to make up those seven points and should continue their undefeated run in this match. Manager Marc Wilmots still counts with veterans like Gervinho and Salomon Kalou but has a new wave of talented players like Eric Bailly, Franck Kessie, Jean Michael Seri and Maxwel Cornet.
Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, who can be a key component to Ivory Coast’s attack is just returning from injury and will miss this match. Even with that key absence, The Elephants should easily take this game with no complications like it did the first time the two teams met in the competition.
