Match Preview
Chile is just out of the top five, currently in sixth place with 23 points, just a point behind fourth-place Peru. La Roja is coming off two very disappointing defeats, a 1-0 loss against Bolivia away from home and a 3-0 loss against Paraguay at home. Some of Juan Antonio Pizzi’s star players, specifically Alexis Sanchez have really been ineffective in these past two losses. This should be a winnable game for Chile especially at home but it should still prove to be a hard-fought match against Ecuador.
Ecuador is also going into this game in poor form, with three consecutive losses coming against Peru, Brazil and Colombia. Los Amarillos’ chances of making the next World Cup grow slimmer each matchday and this is now a must-win game for Jorge Celico’s side. Ecuador has some intriguing players like Enner Valencia, Renato Ibarra, Michael Arroyo and Antonio Valencia but there is a quality gap between the two teams. This should be an extremely contested duel between two teams who need the three points from the game to keep their World Cup aspirations alive.
