Newcastle could do with a reliable striker after managing to average just one goal per game in all 7 league matches played thus far, and former Arsenal forward Ian Wright believes Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge is a perfect option.
The England international is currently behind makeshift striker Roberto Firmino at Anfield, and doesn’t appear close to forcing himself into manager Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI anytime soon.
Wright watched Sturridge put in a subpar performance against the Magpies at the weekend, and believes the 28-year-old, whose best season to date came in the 2013-14 campaign when he scored 21 goals in 29 EPL appearances, could be better suited to the Saint James’ Park outfit.
The league goalscoring legend cum pundit told the BBC Radio 5Live: “I think Newcastle would be the ideal club for Daniel Sturridge. The fans would take to him there.”
Frequent injuries have hampered the growth and form of the former Chelsea striker, but he has often proved himself whenever fit, and has remained a regular name on England’s first team sheet over the years.
With lack of European football and inability to meet his wages demand both certain at Newcastle, it remains to be seen if there is a realistic chance of having him play for the Toons.
