Tottenham forward Harry Kane has backed team-mate Harry Winks to make it into the England squad soon but at the same time, has also asked the talented midfielder to be patient.

Winks, who made his breakthrough into the Spurs first team last season, has been impressing for the London side over the past few months.

This fine form has led manager Mauricio Pochettino to describe the talented youngster as the perfect midfielder and has also provided him with regular first team opportunities.

Considering his exploits, Winks, in recent weeks, has expressed his desire to play for the England national team and while he not yet received international recognition, England regular Harry Kane has handed some motivational words to the young midfielder suggesting him to be patient and bide his time for his Three Lions call-up.

Kane told in a recent interview, “Harry’s done great. He’s waited patiently for his chance. He’s just got to keep doing what he’s doing, keeping his head down.

“He had a great game in midweek in the Champions League, he had a great game on Saturday. For him, he’s just got to stay focused, not think about it too much, just concentrate on his job, and what’ll happen will happen.

“[Winks is] a great player. On the ball, technically he’s fantastic. He reads the game very well, he can drive past players.

“It isn’t my decision, it’s [Southgate’s] decision. But all he’s got to do is do well for us and then do well for the Under-21s in this camp, and that’s all he can do.”
