Simon Grayson gives his thoughts on McGeady celebration; Preston fans will be left annoyed

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has defended Aiden McGeady’s decision to celebrate after scoring during the Black Cats 2-2 draw with Preston North End this weekend.

McGeady was largely criticized for his actions especially considering that he was the Preston North End player of the year for last season.

McGeady, who was taunted during the game by some of the Preston fans, got himself on the score sheet by netting the third goal of the game during the second half.  After scoring he ran to celebrate near the North End supporters.

Like McGeady, Grayson was also making his return to Preston after leaving the club during the summer to take over the managerial position at Sunderland.

Grayson went on to defend his player for celebrating and said, “You are allowed to run around any part of the field and celebrate how you want.

“He took the pressure off me to be fair, so I’m quite happy with that. I said to him he looked like Adebayor at City. Why shouldn’t you celebrate? He was unfairly taunted, I thought, because he was exceptional last year.”
