Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has said that Neil Lennon would have been a good candidate to have been appointed as manager of Everton in the past.
Rodgers added that he was surprised that Lennon who currently manages Hibernian in Scotland was appointed as manager of Bolton in 2014 as opposed to a Premier League outfit.
The Bhoys took on Hibernian this weekend and Hibs managed to gain a creditable 2-2 draw against the reigning domestic treble winners. The result however meant that Rodgers’ men have extended their unbeaten domestic record to 58 matches in all competitions.
Whilst speaking to Celtic’s official website, Rodgers praised his compatriot Lennon, saying, “Neil is brilliant manager and I have a lot of time and respect for him. He was a fantastic player and had a great playing career here at Celtic. It’s not an easy job to do but to then move from playing to becoming the manager at Celtic was absolutely magnificent.
“I remember I was at Liverpool and at the time Everton were looking for a manager and I thought a perfect candidate would’ve been Neil Lennon. When you manage Celtic, you can manage any club. That was my feeling, so without being disrespectful, when he went to Bolton I was surprised because he’s definitely a Premier League manager.”
