Why Klopp should be blamed for Liverpool’s woes against Newcastle

Liverpool once again failed to put in an impressive performance in a game they had every opportunity and chance to win, and the Sunday’s stalemate against Newcastle now means they have drawn 3 games already thus far.

While the Reds’ defensive woes struck again, and their finishing left little to be desired, manager Jurgen Klopp had a hand in the poor performance of his side.

The German decided to leave out Robert Firmino of the starting lineup, and his choice of replacement in Daniel Sturridge was ill-advised.

Newcastle defender Ciaran Clark gift-wrapped a chance for the England international 5 minutes into the 2nd half, slicing an attempted clearance on the edge of the box into the path of the striker.

However, Sturridge could only shoot straight at the goalie, while Mohamed Salah made matters worse by blazing the rebound over the crossbar.

Dominic Solanke made a late entrance, and immediately came within inches of restoring Liverpool’s lead.

His all-round play was also impressive as he linked up well in attack.

Trusting the youngster with a start would probably have proved effective than taking a gamble on a misfiring veteran.

While the team have been below par all around the pitch this term, Klopp’s selections, more often than not, have been questionable, and their failure to leave Saint James’ Park with valuable 3 points is his fault.
