Rangers bounced back from last weekend’s Old Firm derby loss in style, with an emphatic 4-1 win over Hamilton Academical on Friday night helping to relieve mounting pressure on manager Pedro Caixinha.
It’s believed the Portuguese’ job isn’t safe, with traces of little or no improvement found in the Gers since he took over from Mark Warburton in March.
The club invested massively in players recruitment during the summer transfer window, and failure to prove capable of challenging for at least a runners-up spot in the coming weeks could cost Caixinha his position at the Ibrox dugout.
Rangers legend Terry Butcher however believes the Portuguese will remain at the club for a while, as the board will not want to look foolish having made an unpopular decision of appointing an “outsider” a little over 6 months ago.
The 58-year-old 3-time Scottish Football League Premier Division winner with Rangers said on a recent BT Sport’s live Facebook broadcast: “There will be [questions asked] but not by the Rangers board I feel.
“I think the board will not do anything for some time yet because they want to appear to be fools having signed the wrong man and backed him to the hilt and not come up with the goods.
“So I think they will take their time no matter what happens.
“So he has an extended period but how long that period will last, I don’t know.”
While Butcher’s guesses could end up being true, it’s not likely that the club will hesitate to show Caixinha the exit door should he fail to guide Rangers to a 2nd place finish at the end of the campaign.
