Liverpool boss Klopp defends his summer transfer decision

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has defended his decision to not sign a new first choice striker this season and insisted that the current attackers that the club has are capable of bringing trophies.

The only striker that the Reds signed this summer was Dominic Solanke, who although highly rated, lacks experience at the highest level.

The Reds have not had quality performances from their strikers during recent years and the last time that someone had scored more than 20 goals for them in a season came when Luis Suarez did so during the 2013/14 season.

Klopp has however said that he is happy with having Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino as his options up front.

He said, “Is there any strikers apart from the boys you mentioned? We considered a lot over the summer. But it’s not the time to talk about what we considered. “If there is a striker out there who is better than ours or fits better than ours, why shouldn’t we do it?

“We are not crazy. But I’m really happy. We have Roberto Firmino, maybe not 25 goals but ask anyone in the Premier League and they will say ‘What a player’.

“We have Daniel Sturridge. We all know about his potential. Now he’s fit, so hopefully we can use it. And then everyone will ask for a fit Daniel Sturridge and want to have him. And we have Dom Solanke for sure the biggest English talent in the position No 9. That’s a fantastic situation.”
