Since arriving Parkhead, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has made giving youth a chance a top priority.
The academy graduate duo of Anthony Ralston and Calvin Miller are the latest to link up with the first-team, with the two looking to further establish themselves as starting XI regulars this term.
There is belief another youngster, 20-year-old centre-back Jamie McCart could be next in line, with his form at second tier St Mirren hinting at the huge talent he is capable of turning out to be.
McCart is currently on a 3-month loan at the Scottish Championship, and was impressive on his debut for St Mirren in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Queen of the South.
The youngster reckons the Saints manager Jack Ross can help make him a better player going forward as he eyes breaking into Celtic’s first team.
McCart spoke of his ambitions and reasons for agreeing to a loan move to Mirren thus: “It’s always the dream to force my way into the Celtic first team.
“All I can focus on is working hard and now I am at St Mirren I just need to get in the team, stay there and hopefully get some wins.
“I jumped at the chance to work under the manager here. Working with Jack Ross is the main reason I came here.
“I heard only good things about the club and staff so I’m happy to be here. St Mirren are a big club and they deserve to be in the top division”
The Scottish defender had an 11-game spell at Inverness last season, but could not help them avoid relegation.
McCart will now hope to put in his best performances from now till January in order to convince Rodgers of being worthy of promotion to the Celtic senior team.
