Aston Villa star earns international recognition

Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan has earned himself a call up to the Republic of Ireland national team ahead of the nation’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Wales.

Martin O’ Neill’s side lie in third position in their group and are a point adrift of Wales and five behind leaders Wales as they look to keep their chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup alive.

The game against Moldova on 6 October is certainly one which is winnable while the game three days later against Wales is one which will be difficult for the Republic. Hogan, who was born in Salford, qualifiers to play for the Republic of Ireland through his grandparents.

He missed out on the country’s last squad after waiting for his documentation to come through. O’ Neill confirmed that the player is part of his latest squad and said, “Scott has got the paperwork through and he is available to us.”
