Brighton and Hove Albion striker Tomer Hemed has been charged with violent conduct following his stamp on DeAndre Yedlin during his club’s 1-0 win against Newcastle United this weekend.
Hemed, who scored the only goal of the game, landed his studs on the calf of Yedlin towards the end of the game but he got away with the incident as referee Andrew Marriner did not notice it.
A three man panel of former elite referees from the Premier League governing body did however review the incident and unanimously decided that it was intentional.
The 30-year-old Hemed now has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the incident and should he not do so, he will be banned for three games which will include fixtures against Arsenal, Everton and West Ham.
A ban to Hemed will be a major blow to Brighton consisting that he is currently the clubs only out and out striker given that Glenn Murray and Sam Baldock are currently injured.
