Anderlecht have issued a legal warning to Celtic fans ahead of Wednesday’s night Group B Champions League encounter.
With a lot of Hoops faithful set to travel to Brussels for the encounter, the hosts have warned that those without tickets risk being arrested.
A statement put on the club’s website on Monday reads: “RSC Anderlecht would like to remind all fans of Celtic FC who will be making the trip to Brussels that it is mandatory to be in possession of a valid match ticket when they are present in the territory of Anderlecht or the neigbouring community of Sint-Gillis/Saint-Gilles.
“All Celtic supporters who can’t show a valid match ticket when asked by the authorities, risk being arrested.”
The Belgian side are hoping to prevent any crowd trouble from the visiting fans, as they risk being sanctioned by UEFA should the rules on that front get broken.
Celtic supporters are regarded as one of the best in the world, an observation FIFA has recognized by shortlisting them alongside FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund for the next FIFA Fan Award.
Anderlecht’s warning could just be threats, though, as an E.U citizen is allowed to travel to every part of the continent, including Sint-Gillis/Saint-Gilles and Bruxelles.
Furthermore, there isn’t a known law against trying to find a ticket prior to a match or even hanging out in a bar to watch one.
There has been no official statement from Celtic regarding Anderlecht’s message to their fans, and grabbing all 3 points remains top of the agenda.
