Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has played down reports suggesting that his side are aiming for a top four finish this season.
The Magpies occupy fourth place on the Premier League standings heading into their game against Brighton on Sunday after winning their past three successive League fixtures.
They will be heading into the game against Brighton full of confidence and it is also a game which they can win.
Due to the club’s recent form, some fans may be hoping that they can emulate their performances of the 90’s when they were a major force within English football and challenged for the Premier League title.
Benitez, who is regarded as one of the best tacticians in World football, laughed off suggestions that his side could challenge for the title and said, “At the moment, I am just thinking about if we can get three points against Brighton, that’s it.
“It’s not that I am watching the table. Yes, I have seen the table, but I am not really concerned about that. My main responsibility is to be sure that they play with the same intensity and we approach every game as if it was the most important. That’s it.”
