According to reports, Everton submitted a £66 million bid for striker Diego Costa before the striker eventually managed to rejoin Atletico Madrid this week.
The Spanish international will return to his former club following a split with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte which led to him being frozen out of the clubs first team plans.
After failing in their attempts to lure Olivier Giroud from Arsenal, the Toffees were looking to add a proven quality striker to their squad and it has now emerged that they also failed to sign Costa.
Though the Toffees had a busy summer transfer period bringing in the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jordan Pickford, Wayne Rooney, Cuco Martina, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen, they failed to bring in a quality striker to replace Romelu Lukaku.
Everton may have brought in Sandro Ramirez from Malaga but the player has yet to adapt to the demands of English football as can be seen in his performances thus far.
