West Ham reportedly scout quality Italian centre-back ahead of winter move

As per Calciomercato, West Ham had scouts present during SPAL 2013’s 2-nil defeat at the hands of AC Milan on Wednesday, and the subject of their interest was the former’s centre-back Francesco Vicari.

The London Stadium outfit have shipped most league goals (10) this season, and are keen to add defensive reinforcements come January.

Vicari is on the club’s transfer wish list, and efforts to sign him when the transfer window re-opens will be made.

The 23-year-old is contracted to SPAL until 2019, and has been key to the meteoric rise of the Serie A club.

Vicari helped lead them to Serie B promotion last April and eventually back to the Italian topflight for the first time in 49 years in May.

Snatching such important member of their squad won’t come easy, especially not even in a time like January, with the club bound to fight for the retention of their Serie A status all-campaign.

Should West Ham somehow manage to convince Vicari (most likely next summer) into agreeing a switch, they would be getting a quality defender who has shown a lot of promises since graduating from the Roma youth teams in 2011.
