Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that striker Vincent Janssen wanted to leave the North London club this summer.
The Dutch international Janssen struggled during his first season with the Lillywhites last term and went on to score just six times from 35 games in all competitions.
Janssen did not manage to threaten Harry Kane’s place within the team and following the arrival of Fernando Llorente at Spurs this summer, he was set to fall further down the pecking order at the club.
He has since joined Turkish outfit Fenerbahce and scored his first goal for the club during their 4-1 win over Alanyaspor on Sunday.
Whilst speaking about the 23-year-old, Pochettino has now said, “I think it’s important for him [to score] because always all the players struggle in their first season in England.
“When you come from Netherlands it’s a different level of competition and in the end he wanted to leave and he decided to go to Turkey, and we wish him all the best and we are happy if he scored last night. It was really good for him, to try to build again his confidence.”
