Tottenham star reveals contract talks

Fernando Llorente has revealed that he had been offered a new contract to remain at Swansea but could not turn down the opportunity to link up with Tottenham.

The Spain international joined Spurs this season following an impressive season with the Swans last term during which he scored 15 goals from 33 games to help the Welsh outfit avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Following his impressive form, Llorente had been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium and Chelsea had been touted as a possible destination. When talks with the Blues eventually broke down, he decided to join Tottenham.

Swans manager Paul Clement and chairperson Huw Jenkins have both claimed that Llorente was offered the possibility to remain with the club going into this season.

The player has since also revealed that this was indeed the case and when talking about the situation, said, “This was one possibility, but finally Tottenham made it possible for this (to happen).

“I am happy to have come here, I think Spurs are one of the best clubs in the Premier League and I think we can be among the top teams this year but obviously we have to improve on this but it is a long season.”
