Celtic handed a huge boost ahead of their double-header against Bayern Munich

Celtic vs Hearts

Celtic are the biggest of the 2 underdogs in Champions League Group B, and despite kicking off their European campaign with a 5-nil shellacking at the hands of PSG last midweek, manager Brendan Rodgers believes his side have got all it takes to remain in the continent after Christmas.

The Hoops face Anderlecht next week in Belgium, but it’s the double-legged clash against Bayern Munich that would determine their chances of at least making it to the Europa League round of 32.

The Germans thrashed Mainz 4-nil at the weekend, but lost Manuel Neuer to a long term injury.

Leading German news outlet Bild claims that the goalkeeper is set for an extended period of around 3 months on the injury sidelines, as scans confirm he has broken his left foot.

The shotstopper will have to go under the knife in order to get back on his feet, having suffered the same knock that ruled him out for many months of recent.

Sven Ulreich will mount the duty post until Neuer’s return, and he’s not the most commanding of presence in goal.

Celtic travel to Germany to take on Munich come October 18, with the return leg holding a fortnight on October 31.

Bayern remain the team to beat despite Neuer’s absence, but Celtic no doubt have a greater chance of scoring goals with Ulreich on duty.
