Leon is trying to change things for the better with new manager Gustavo Diaz now at the helm after the departure of Javier Torrente. Diaz was successful in his first game in charge of La Fiera getting a 2-1 away win against Queretaro in week 8 of the competition.
Mauro Boselli scored his sixth goal of the season in that game, his fifth in Leon’s last five games. The reliance on their captain for Los Panzas Verdes in this Apertura 2017 has been immense as Boselli has scored six of Leon’s 11 goals in this tournament. This reliance needs to stop in order for the team to progress but it will still be interesting to see what kind of impact the Argentine striker can have in this game.
Pachuca has been a disappointment in this Apertura 2017, currently in 11th place with nine points after eight games. Los Tuzos were expected to be one of the best teams in Mexico this season with the acquisitions of Edson Puch and Keisuke Honda but have failed to live up to expectations. Puch has had an injury-ridden season while Keisuke Honda is still adapting to the Mexican game, having barely started his first game last week.
Pachuca has lost its last two games, coming against Club Tijuana away from home (2-1) and Chivas of Guadalajara at home (3-1). Manager Diego Alonso has controversially started youngsters in recent games instead of experienced players, which has arguably cost the team. It will be interesting to see what starting lineup Alonso presents in this game and how it will perform in a tough game away from home. The game should be a very exciting encounter between two teams that are eager to make it into the playoffs this season.
