Match Preview

Monterrey has been the best team in the Liga MX Apertura 2017, currently leading the league with 20 points from eight matches. The latest result for Los Rayados was arguably the weakest of the season, a 1-0 win against Necaxa at home but the team has still proven to be a force in this Apertura 2017. Antonio Mohamed has a solid team from top to bottom and has arguably the deadliest attack in the continent made up of Rogelio Funes Mori, Aviles Hurtado and Dorlan Pabon.

That attacking trident has scored 12 of Monterrey’s 16 goals this season and should make an impact in this game against Atlas. La Pandilla should be able to win this game especially with the massive home-field advantage at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

Atlas has had a plethora of problems in this tournament that has impeded the team from succeeding. A solution to these problems could be the club’s latest signing Ravel Morrison, who already debuted for the team in the Copa MX. Morrison played 45 minutes in Atlas’ 2-1 win against Potros UAEM earlier in the week and should feature in this match.

Jose Guadalupe Cruz has some talented players on his squad like Morrison, Matias Alustiza, Milton Caraglio among others but there is a clear quality gap between them and Monterrey’s players. The game should still prove to be an exciting encounter with Monterrey eager to continue its dominance and Atlas looking to gain points for its relegation battle.
