West Ham reportedly missed out on German international this summer

Schurrle

According to reports, West Ham missed out on signing former Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle during the summer.

The German was looking for a return to the Premier League after leaving Chelsea two years ago and a two year loan deal was reportedly proposed to the Hammers by Borussia Dortmund.

Slaven Bilic’s side would have also had the option to buy the player permanently for £26 million at the end of the season

The deal however fell through after they instead focused their attention on signing Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho as they looked to strengthen their options in midfield.

The East London club recruited two forwards in Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez during the summer and this may have also influenced them in not pushing forward to recruit Schurrle.

Schurrle appears to have fallen down the pecking order at Dortmund after making only seven Bundesliga starts last season, with a further eight coming off the bench.
