Pundits are divided over the red card that Sadio Mane received during the team’s 5-0 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday.
The Senegal international Mane received a straight red card after he was given his marching orders by referee Jon Moss for a perceived dangerously high boot on City goalkeeper Ederson during the first half.
The tackle required Ederson to be replaced by Claudio Bravo following a lengthy delay. The red card to Mane has been a huge talking point of the game and both pundits and fans are largely divided over what they think.
Gary Neville revealed that the referee Moss made a bad decision and said, “I’m sorry Jon Moss, but you have ruined this game. I don’t think it’s a red. His eyes are on the ball. The rewards are so big if he wins that.”
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher however, feels that the red card was deserved and said, “It’s a red card. I didn’t initially think it was, I needed a lot of replays.
“It doesn’t matter [if he had his eye on the ball] he’s caught the keeper. If you don’t get there and you have your boot that high [it’s a sending off].”
After Ederson’s injury, City went into half time with a comfortable 2-0 lead through goals from Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus then scored three goals during the second half, with Jesus scoring a second of the game and the young Leroy Sane netting a brace.
