Chelsea boss dismisses ridiculous claims about Ross Barkley

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has dismissed reports suggesting that his club’s aims to sign Everton star Ross Barkley were put to an end up his phone being switched off.

The England international Barkley was on the verge of a move to the Blues and had a £35 million bid accepted by Everton. However the deal ended up not going ahead as it was Barkley who decided to pull out at the last minute.

There have been reports recently suggesting that Barkley decided to pull out of the move because Conte’s phone was switched off when the player’s representatives tried to contact him.

The Italian boss however has played down these rumours by saying, “First of all, I want to tell you that I don’t like to speak about players of other teams because it is a lack of respect.

“But what I read about this issue was ridiculous. Ridiculous. I stop. It’s ridiculous. With this adjective, I tell you my thoughts of this news.

“I think the club tried to do its best in the transfer market. Sometimes you are able to buy. Sometimes you are not able to buy, for many reasons. But I think the club tried to do its best during the transfer market.”
