By all standards, Rangers had a very successful summer transfer window. However, manager Pedro Caixinha failed to land one of his top targets – Hearts midfielder Jamie Walker.
Nevertheless, a January move is said to be on the cards, while a pre-contract could also be signed by then ahead of a free transfer next summer should the Tynecastle outfit fail to sanction a winter sale.
New Hearts manager and director of football Craig Levein, appears to have revealed one of the reasons why both clubs did not come close to an agreement during transfer deadline-day talks for the 24-year-old midfielder.
He claimed: “I don’t want to go into too much detail but if I was Jamie I’d be a little bit disappointed that a lot of the promises that were made to him weren’t kept. And not from our club.”
Hearts rejected 2 bids from Rangers for their star player in June, and nothing could work out between both sides until the window closed.
If the new man in charge would be able to convince the Jambos midfielder into signing a new deal before January or the end of the season remains to be seen.
While Walker would have no doubt been a great addition to Rangers, it doesn’t appear the club would do just fine without a player of his calibre.
11 players were brought to Ibrox, with all departments getting shored up before the window closed.
Caixinha has reiterated that he has the best squad to work with, and may not even consider returning for the former Scotland Under-21 international if things go his way with his current crop of players.
