Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has given his verdict on Tottenham signing Davinson Sanchez.
Sanchez linked up with the North London side this summer from Dutch giants Ajax. He was impressive last season as he helped the Dutch club to reach the Europa League final where they lost to Manchester United.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team paid £42 million for the 21-year-old and he is expected to be handed opportunities to prove himself at the club.
Van der Sar, who currently serves as the CEO of Ajax, however believes that the player should have remained in Holland to continue developing his talent rather jump at the chance to join Tottenham. He said, “I think with Sanchez one year was too early. He should have stayed two or three years.
“But sometimes with the financial power that is looming over us in the bigger leagues it’s quite difficult for even a big club like Ajax coming from a small league to resist certain transfers.”
