Manager insists Joe Hart is the best English goalkeeper at the moment

Joe Hart

England manager Gareth Southgate has claimed that West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart remains the best the Three Lions has to offer. Hart has been criticized has he has conceded ten goals from just three games for the Hammers in the Premier League so far.

Despite this, Southgate opted to retain the 30-year-old in goal for the Three Lions latest World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia. He was also criticized for conceding an apparently “soft” goal against Slovakia on Monday.

Many now feel that Hart should be dropped and replaced by either Jack Butland, Tom Heaton or Jordan Pickford as first choice for the Three Lions.

Considering the way Pickford has progressed over the past year, he will likely become first choice for England in the near future even though he has yet to make his debut.

For now however, Southgate still maintains that Hart is the best in England and said, “Joe has had a tough time of it recently and international football is never easy. People say that he should be dropped and someone else be brought in, but I don’t see many other better keepers named Joe Hart, do you?

“There’s simply no one that can come close to him. Sure we have some goalkeepers whose first names are Joe and surnames are Hart apart from Joe Hart there’s just no one out there than can be considered as good as him.”
