Newcastle United handed huge injury boost ahead of Swansea visit

15 days after strolling to their first Premier League victory of the campaign, Newcastle resume action with a visit to the Liberty Stadium to clash with Swansea in the 4th round of fixtures.

Ahead of their first match since the summer transfer market closed, the Toons have received a huge injury boost, with summer defensive recruitment Florian Lejeune set to return to action since sustaining an ankle ligament injury against Tottenham during the season opener.

The £8.7million signing from Eibar ended up wearing protective cast and was on crutches after a harsh challenge from Spurs’ Harry Kane prematurely ended his debut.

It was thought Lejeune would spend a couple of weeks on the treatment’s table, but it now appears he could be in contention for the trip to Wales after returning to full training.

English midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is also set to return from the 3-match suspension he was slapped with as a result of his red card in the Spurs’ loss.

However, it remains to be seen if manager Rafa Benitez would be keen to immediately throw the former Swansea star to action against his former club, with summer arrival Mikel Merino most likely to retain his starting spot.

Newcastle would hope to make it 2 league wins in as many games in order to further steer clear the drop zone, and with the return of 2 of their first team members, that is very much possible.
