USA vs Costa Rica 2017 Match Preview
The United States is currently sitting in third with eight points after two wins, two draws and two losses after six games played. The Americans are living a good moment as they were crowned champions of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup and tied 1-1 against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in their last game in these qualifiers. Bruce Arena has an MLS heavy squad with only eight players who do not play in the MLS on the squad including Omar Gonzalez and Jorge Villafana who play in the Liga MX.
The players who play outside of North America include three players who play in England and three players who play in Germany including Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic. The United States has a squad that can compete against this talented Costa Rica side and the home-field advantage could prove to be the difference maker in this game.
Costa Rica has done slightly better in this hexagonal stage currently in second with 11 points. Los Ticos have three wins, two draws and only one loss and a goal differential of five as opposed to the US’s goal differential of three. Costa Rica does have seven players who play in Europe on its roster the more notable names being Keylor Navas, Celso Borges and Bryan Ruiz.
The first time these two met in this hexagonal stage Los Ticos obtained a monumental 4-0 victory at home against the Americans. Costa Rica arguably does have the better squad but this could prove to be a very tough game playing away from home.
