Mexico vs Panama 2017 Match Preview
Mexico has dominated this hexagonal stage of the competition as it should be doing, currently leading the group with 14 points and a goal differential of seven. El Tri is undefeated with four wins and two draws, the two ties came against the United States at home and Panama away. This time around Panama should not cause many problems with the game being played at the Estadio Azteca.
The squad selection by Juan Carlos Osorio did not hold many surprises; one of the more interesting players on the squad is Monterrey’s Cesar Montes but the youngster is unlikely to play anyway. Mexico should comfortably win this game against an inferior opponent and with the home-field advantage.
Panama is a relentless, physical side that can achieve results by not allowing its opposition to create opportunities with several fouls. The higher echelon teams in the CONCACAF region like Mexico, the US and Costa Rica have struggled against the Central American side in the past because of this. The United States has tied 1-1 against Panama in both this hexagonal stage and in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup as well while Mexico had a scoreless draw against Panama the first time the teams met in this hexagonal stage.
Mexico should not undermine its opponent heading into this game as that harsh style of play may complicate things for El Tri. Mexico Should win this game and anything less would be a failure but the game should still be an intriguing match-up between two distinct sides.
