Malta is already mathematically eliminated from a chance at qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup currently bottom of Group F with no points. The Reds have lost all six games so far, including a 2-0 loss against England away from home and have conceded 15 goals. Most of Malta’s squad does play domestically in a league that is not very competitive and it will be almost impossible to get any points out of this game.
England is undefeated in Group F with four wins and two draws making up for 14 points after six games. The British side has counted with a rigid defense as it has only conceded two goals good for the lowest in Group F while the offense has scored 10 goals as well. Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge are currently England’s top scorers in these qualifiers with two goals each.
There were a few surprises on Gareth Southgate’s squad selection for this round of matches that included a couple of players with no caps for the national team in Harry Maguire and Nathaniel Chalobah. Southgate may opt to use some of the more inexperienced players on the squad facing a very weak opposition. The Three Lions should walk away with the three points from the game and anything less than that would be a failure.
